On August 7, 2011, Mantokuji sponsored a very successful fundraiser for the Japan Relief Fund with the help of zumba dance instructor Rayo McPhee. The Paia Community Center social hall was packed full of over a hundred enthusiastic participants dancing the zumba. Some were beginners and others were experts, but they all enjoyed their time being a part of this worthy cause.
We thank Bobbie Arita for chairing the zumbathon and Judy Matoi for chairing the rummage and craft sale.
There were many people and businesses that contributed in making this event possible and a great success. We especially thank Rayo and her students who donated their time in this effort, Kerry Watanabe for hustling to get all the prizes, Cathy Murayama and Yukie Pye for helping with the planning and organizing the event. There were many who donated rummage items, sponsored a craft/rummage table, helped set up and clean up, and of course it would not have been a success without the many people in the community that came in support of this project by participating in the zumbathon and rummage sale.
We were able to raise over $5,000 with the sale of zumba tickets, raffle tickets, silent auction, donations, and the rummage sale. 100% of the donations will be sent to the victims of the tsunami and earthquake through the Hawaii Soto Mission Association and Soto Shu Shumucho Headquarters.
